Addis Ababa, January 4, 2024 (FBC) – The Embassy of Ethiopia in Pretoria organized launching event for “Back to Your Origins”, an invitation announced for the second generation of Ethiopian Diaspora residing in South Africa and other Southern African nations.
In attendance were Ethiopian Ambassador to South Africa Mukhtar Kedir, representatives from the diaspora community, the United Ethiopian Community Association in South Africa, religious leaders, media representatives, distinguished academics, and women’s advocates.
Ambassador Mukhtar Kedir highlighted Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed’s call for the entire second generation of Ethiopian diaspora to return to their roots, fostering a connection with their country’s culture and history. This initiative aims to strengthen their sense of patriotism and encourage active participation in the prosperity and development endeavors.
During the launching event, Ambassador Mukhtar officially presented this call to the second-generation Ethiopian diaspora living in Southern Africa, urging them to respond concretely by embracing the invitation and embarking on a journey back to their homeland.
The Ambassador assured that arrangements are in place to offer essential support and guidance to diaspora members returning for a successful stay.
Representatives from diaspora organizations and second-generation participants in the event emphasized that the call evokes patriotism and strengthens the sense of belonging. They expressed their readiness to reiterate the concrete response given in the initial call and actively engage in planned events by traveling to their home country.
