Embassies of various countries extend Timket best wishes to Ethiopians

Addis Ababa, January 19, 2024 (FBC) – Embassies, missions and country offices of international/multilateral organizations stationed in Addis Ababa have sent holiday best wishes to Ethiopians on the occasion of Timket-Ketera festival.

Ketera (eve of Timket) is being celebrated by Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahdo Church and Ethiopian Catholic Church faithful colorfully. Pictures published on social media show that the holiday is being observed by millions of people throughout Ethiopia.

In light of this, embassies of various countries, partners and friends of Ethiopia have poured their best wishes to Ethiopians who are observing the festival.

“Happy Epiphany to all those who celebrate it! May this holiday bring good health, peace, happiness and joy to every house and every family, warmth and light in your thoughts and souls!,” reads a message from the Russian Embassy.

Meanwhile, the U.S Embassy in Addis Ababa also sent Epiphany best wishes. “Ethiopian Epiphany is a colorful festival celebrated throughout Ethiopia. Recognized as one of the Intangible Cultural Heritages of Humanity by UNESCO, it acknowledges practices, representations, expressions, and the knowledge and skills of communities. As Ethiopian Christians celebrate Epiphany both in Ethiopia and worldwide, the Embassy of the United States would like to take this opportunity to wish everyone joyful and colorful festivities. Melkam Timket!”

The British Embassy, for its part, published a video showing traditional values of Timekt Holiday with a caption of “Happy Ketera and Timket festivities to all those celebrating!”

Among others, Embassy of Canada, Italy, the Netherlands, and Mexico also shared their best wishes to Ethiopians celebrating Timket holiday.
