Electoral Board of Ethiopia is announcing final results of 6th general elections

Addis Ababa, July 10, 2021 (FBC) – National Electoral Board of Ethiopia is announcing final results of the 6th general elections in the presence of several stakeholders.

Leaders of contending political parties, representatives of the international community and civic society organizations and influential public figures are attending the announcement ceremony.

In her opening remarks, Chairperson of the Electoral Board, Birtukan Mideksa said the election has been fari, transparent, peaceful and successful despite some challenges seen during pre-election and the voting process. 

The election was held at a time when Ethiopia had encountered several challenges from both international and external factors related to security matters and related issues.

A representative of the Association of Civic Societies Organization, Tamrat Kebede has tabled the final observation report of the organizations who monitored the process in several constituencies and polling stations across the country.

He said observers had successfully participated in voter education and attentively attended and monitored the electoral process through physical presence in more than 1,300 constituencies.

The board has announced verified results of election contested for parliamentary seats. Accordingly, in Addis Ababa, Prosperity Party (PP) won 22 parliamentary seats while an independent candidate secured 1 seat out of 23 constituencies.

In Afrar Region which represented by 8 parliamentarians, PP has won 6 seats in the election held at the
same number of constituencies. In Amhara Region, PP has secured 114 parliamentary seats while National Movement of Amhara attained 5 in polls took place 128 constituencies.

In Benshangul Region, PP secured 3 seats from election held in same number of constituencies. PP has won asat1 seat in Dire Dawa out of election in 2 constituencies. In Gambela Region which has 89 seats in parliament, PP has got 3 from election held in same number of
constituencies.
In Oromia Region, PP has won 167 seats while independent candidates have claimed 3 in election held in
170 constituencies. PP has won all 19 seats for which voting was held in Sidama region.

Out of 85 constituencies in Southern Nations Nationalities and Peoples Region, PP has won 75 while
Ethiopian Citizens for Social Justice Party (EZEMA) secured 4 and Gedio People Democracy Organization
Party 2 others.
