Addis Ababa, June 24, 2021 (FBC) – Spokesperson of Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Dina Mufti, in a weekly press briefing session held today, stated that election will be held in Tigray once the regional state is confirmed to be returned to normal life again.
Ambassador Dina briefed journalists on diplomatic and political diplomacy spheres and latest developments in the country including recent general elections, situation in Tigray, among others.
Regarding Tigray, the Ambassador said elections will be undertaken in the region as soon as the returns to normalcy, adding “Attaching what’s happening in Tigray with the electoral process in the remaining parts of the country is simply naïve”
An information circulating as if TPLF captured is some places in Tigray is groundless, he said continued comments from outside forces regarding the terrorist group and other allegations concerning the situation in the region was aimed to mar the concluded election process and the democratization steps in the country.
While responding to concerns raised by journalists regarding the call from Sudan for withdrawal of Ethiopian Peacekeeping forces from Abyei, Ambassador Dina said that nothing will be done without decision of the UN.
Ethiopia is consistent in its position to resolve the border dispute with Sudan and the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD) issues with peaceful negotiations.
