Addis Ababa, June 28, 2023 (FBC) – Ethiopians are celebrating Eid al-Adha 1444 H Holiday with various religious events across the nation.
In the capital, Addis Ababa, tens of thousands of Muslims congregated at Addis Ababa stadium where Eid al-Adha prayer and other religious ceremonies took place.
Religious leaders delivered Eid al-Adha messages calling Muslims to observe almsgiving and support one another during the holiday.
Muslims in several cities and towns including Jimma, Semera, Jigjiga, Dire Dawa, Harar, Dessie and Gambella have attended the Eid al-Adha prayers in mosques and public spaces.
Eid al-Adha or the Feast of Sacrifice is the second and the largest of the two main holidays celebrated in Islam. It honours the willingness of Abraham to sacrifice one of his sons, either Ishmael or Isaac, as an act of obedience to God’s command.
