Addis Ababa, February 6, 2023 (FBC) – The Ethiopian Blood and Tissue Bank Service has stated that efforts are underway to resume blood bank services in Tigray region.
In an exclusive interview with Fana Broadcasting Corporate’s Yohannes Derbew, the Deputy Director General of the Ethiopian Blood & Tissue Bank Service, Habtamu Taye, stated that following the peace agreement, an expert team was sent to Axum Blood Bank to conduct a survey and restore the services.
The Deputy DG confirmed that 400 units of blood was sent in two rounds until the regular blood donation resumes in an organized manner through Axum Blood Bank.
He also noted that 200 units of blood was sent to the Mekele Blood Bank.
Habtamu also stated that blood bags, blood test reagents and related logistical support have been provided to the region.
In order to continue this support and to address the needs of blood treatment users in every area, he called on volunteer blood donors to save the lives of others by donating blood.
