Addis Ababa, August 4, 2023 (FBC) – The Ethiopian Football Federation (EFF) announced a change of plans on the national team’s friendly matches in its U.S tour.
It is to be remembered that the Ethiopian national team, in its first friendly match, has claimed a 2-0 victory over Guyana national team at the Segra Field Stadium, Washington, D.C.
In its second and last game, the team was initially scheduled to play against Atlanta Rovers Football Club on Saturday 5 August at the Southern Crescent Stadium. Hence, the organizer stated that considerable amount of tickets for the second game was not sold and requested for the cancellation of the game, EFF confirmed.
Following this decision, the Ethiopian national team will not travel to Atlanta, but will instead remain in Washington DC to arrange other friendly games.
Accordingly, on Saturday 5 August, it will play against Loudoun United Football Club at Segra Field. Loudoun United FC is an American professional soccer team based in Leesburg, Virginia. The club was founded in 2018 as the reserve team of D.C. United and made its debut in the USL Championship in 2019. The club plays its home matches at Segra Field, a stadium where Ethiopian national team’s match against Guyana was played on August 3.
After tomorrow’s friendly match against Loudoun United Football Club, various efforts are being made for the national team to play a game with Wayne Rooney’s DC United Football Club. Eyob Mamo, a part shareholder of DC United FC, is also making efforts to arrange the game with his club, EFF announced.
