EEU to roll out smart prepayment electricity meter

Addis Ababa, July 7, 2023 (FBC) – Ethiopian Electric Utility (EEU) has signed a project agreement with Inhemeter Co. Ltd to roll out STS talk and smart prepaid meter technology, replacing the existing electricity meter technology which has been implemented for the past 15 years.

The agreement was signed by the Chief Executive Officer of Ethiopian Electricity Utility, Shiferaw Telila, and Ding Fumin, Technical Director of Inhemeter.

During the signing ceremony, Shiferaw Telila revealed that the existing prepaid counter service is not convenient for customers.

For his part, Inhemeter Technical Director, Mr. Ding Fumin, said that they will complete the project with quality and deliver it on time.

It is said that when the project is completed, customers will be able to easily recharge their electricity through their cell phones, digital payment options, bank ATM machines, agent shops working with EEU, and through the organization’s call centers.

The project is said to be vital in reducing the power loss associated with the meter, modernizing the reading of bills and cash collection and increasing income.

It is confirmed that the total cost of this project will be 48 million 875 thousand 545 USD.
