EASTRIP says building centers of excellence in Ethiopia, Kenya and Tanzania

Addis Ababa, February 8, 2022 (FBC) – The East Africa skills for Transformation and Regional Integration Project (EASTRIP) announced that it is building centers of excellences in various countries of East Africa.

The project said it is building the centers 16 Technical and Vocational Education and Training institutes found in Ethiopia, Kenya and Tanzania with a budget of 300 million USD secured from the World Bank.

Ethiopian delegation led by the Minister of Labor and Skills, Muferihat Kamil attended a review meeting organized by the World Bank in Mombasa, Kenya. The review meeting discussed the activities being carried out under the college-industry initiative in the countries.

Officials of 16 TVET Colleges supported by the World Bank and representatives of industries are included in the Ethiopian delegation.

Technical and Vocational Education Training (TVET) colleges in East Africa supported by the World Bank-funded East African Skills for Transformation Project (EASTRIP) have recorded more than fourfold increase in student enrollment, according to the mid-term evaluation report of the project.
