Addis Ababa, July 5, 2024 (FBC) – The Ethiopian Athletics Federation (EAF) has announced the final lineup of athletes representing Ethiopia at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games in various disciplines.
In the women’s 800 meters category, Tsige Duguma, Habtam Alemu, and Worknesh Melese have been selected, with Nigist Getachew serving as a reserve.
The men’s 1500 meters lineup includes Abdisa Fayisa, Samuel Tefera, and Ermias Girma, while Taddese Lemi has been listed as a reserve.
The women’s 1500 meter squad consists of Gudaf Tsegay, Birke Hayelom, and Dirbe Wolteji, with Hirut Meshesha named as a reserve.
Moreover, Gudaf Tsegay has also been named in the women’s 5,000 meter alongside Medina Isa and Ejigayehu Taye. However, athlete Freweyni Hailu has been named as a reserve.
The Tokyo Olympic champion Selemon Berega is set to represent his country and will target a second gold medal in the men’s 10,000 meter. Selemon will line up alongside Yomif Kejelcha, who has also been named in the men’s 5000m race. Athlete Berihu Aregawi is also in the 10,000m list, where Biniam Mehari has been listed as a reserve.
The women’s 10,000 meter list features Gudaf Tsegay, Fotien Tesfay, and Tsige Gebreselama, but Aynaddis Mebratu has been listed as a reserve.
The men’s 3,000 meter steeplechase will feature world record holder Lamecha Girma, Samuel Frew, and Getnet Wale. Abraham Sime is listed as a reserve in this category.
Meanwhile, Simbo Alemayehu and Lomi Muleta will represent Ethiopia in the women’s 3000m steeplechase.
Furthermore, the women’s marathon world record holder athlete Tigist Asefa is listed in the women’s marathon team alongside 2023 world champion Amane Beriso and Megertu Alemu, but the 2022 world champion Goitytom Gebresellasie has been listed as a reserve.
On the other hand, the veteran Kenenisa Bekele will look to make his mark once again, but this time in the marathon race where he will represent his country alongside Sisay Lema and Deresa Geleta. However, the 2022 marathon world champion Tamrat Tola has been listed as a reserve in the men’s marathon team.
The Ethiopian national team will also be represented in the men’s 20-kilometer race-walking Misgana Wakuma.
