Dr Seleshi elected Head of Nile Equatorial Lakes Council of Ministers

Addis Ababa, November 12, 2020 (FBC) –Ethiopia’s Minister of Water, Irrigation and Energy, Dr Seleshi Bekele, has been elected Chairperson of the Nile Equatorial Lakes Council of Ministers.

He was elected to lead the Council for the coming one year at the 23rd Annual meeting of council, which is being held virtually.

Similarly, Rwanda took over the mantle of leadership of the Nile Council of Ministers (Nile-COM) from Kenya.

Dr Seleshi on the occasion called on the Nile Basin Initiative member states to prioritize investing in water infrastructures.

He said the Nile Basin Initiative is highly important to ensure fair utilization of the Nile waters among the member states.

The Nile-COM is a body made up of Water Affairs Ministers from the 10 Nile Basin Initiative (NBI) member states namely; Burundi, DR Congo, Egypt, Ethiopia, Kenya, Rwanda, S Sudan, Sudan, Tanzania, and Uganda.
