Addis Ababa, May 25, 2023 (FBC) – Demeke Mekonnen, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia, conferred with Luo Zhaohui, Director of China International Development Cooperation Agency (CIDCA), in Beijing today (May 25, 2023).
During the discussion, DPM & FM Demke commended China for providing Ethiopia both monetary and non-monetary assistance based on the principles of mutual benefits with no conditions on internal political issues.
China is making valuable contributions to Ethiopia’s development endeavors in the spirit of South-South cooperation, Demeke noted.
He said the Pretoria Peace Agreement is being implemented and it is high time for China to support Ethiopia’s rehabilitation and reconstruction efforts.
Luo Zhaohui, on his part, said that Ethiopia is not only a great partner of China but also an influential country in Africa that deserves necessary support in areas such as agriculture, education, and riverside development, among others.
The China International Development Cooperation Agency is a foreign aid agency of the People’s Republic of China. It is directly subordinate to the State Council. It was created to “achieve better coordination and greater impact” of China’s aid programs, particularly in support of the Belt and Road Initiative.
Rcall that high-level Ethiopian delegation, headed by DPM & FM Demeke Mekonnen, is on an official visit to China from May 24 to 28 upon the invitation of his Chinese counterpart Qin Gang.
Demeke Mekonnen also met and held a discussion with Chinese State Councilor and Foreign Minister, Qin Gang, in Beijing on Thursday.
