DPM & FM Demeke confers with US Senator Mike Rounds

Addis Ababa, October 7, 2023 (FBC) – Demeke Mekonnen, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister of Ethiopia, discussed national and regional issues of common interest with US Senator for South Dakota, Mike Rounds, and his delegation today at his office.

Welcoming the US delegation, the Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister appreciated their keen interest in Ethiopia and the historic partnership that the two countries have, and he wished to revitalize the relations.

DPM &FM Demeke called on the United States to lift Ethiopia’s suspension from the benefits of the AGOA preferential free trade agreement, highlighting its importance to Ethiopia’s economy and strengthening trade ties between the two nations, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ethiopia.

The meeting also addressed the continued humanitarian assistance that the United States provides to Ethiopia. Given the diverse array of challenges and crises faced by Ethiopia, the provision of humanitarian aid assumes paramount importance, Demeke said.

It is noted that the meeting between the two sides signifies the mutual interest in enhancing bilateral relations and strengthening cooperation between Ethiopia and the United States.
