Addis Ababa, December 11, 2023 (FBC) – Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ethiopia, Demeke Mekonnen, held discussions with China’s Special Envoy for the Horn of Africa, Ambassador Xue Bing, today.
During their discussion, Demeke reiterated Ethiopia’s commitment to work for the realization of the newly entered all-weather strategic partnership with China.
He further appreciated the continued assistance of China to Ethiopia’s development adventures in various fields and its constructive role in Africa in addressing security, development, and governance challenges.
DPM & FM Demeke also commended China’s principled support in multilateral forums and its support for Ethiopia to join the BRICS.
Demeke also stressed the Ethiopian Government’s determination for the full implementation of the Pretoria Peace Agreement.
Ambassador Xue Bing, for his part, acclaimed the efforts made by the Government of Ethiopia to elevate the bilateral relationship between the two countries to the level of an all-weather strategic partnership.
He acknowledged the role of Ethiopia in maintaining peace and development in the Horn of Africa. The Special Envoy also reckoned that the implementation of the peace process in the country is encouraging.
Ambassador Bing also underscored the need to hold the second China-Horn of Africa Peace, Good Governance and Development Conference.
