Addis Ababa, October 5, 2023 (FBC) – Demeke Mekonnen, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister of Ethiopia, called for concerted efforts and cooperation between the African Union and the United Nations in the field of Peace and Security.
While hosting members of the UN Security Council (UNSC), who are concluding a working visit to Addis Ababa today, Demeke said the government is committed to the full implementation of the Pretoria peace agreement and will continue playing a constructive role in the stability of the region as well.
Sergio Franca Danese, President of the UNSC underscored the vitality of deepened relations between the two global bodies in addressing African problems.
Ethiopia is an anchor of stability in the Horn of Africa, members of the delegation noted.
Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Demeke also briefed the delegation, which is in Addis for a meeting with the AUPSC, and responded to questions posed by members of the UNSC, per MFA Ethiopia.
