Diaspora will be participating in various national programs: Foreign Affairs Ministry

 Addis Ababa, December 30, 2021 (FBC) – In a biweekly press briefing, Spokesperson of Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Dina Mufti stated that the incoming Ethiopian Diaspora will be participating in variou national programs facilitated by the government.

Large number of Ethiopians, people of Ethiopian origin and friends of Ethiopia are coming home responding to the call forwarded by Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed for the GreatEthiopianHomeComing Challenge, he said.

The programs are intended to enhance Diaspora’s participation in crucial national activities including rehabilitation of people affected by the conflict and rebuilding of infrastructures destroyed by the terrorist TPLF Group.

Pan African symposiums, cultural festivals, exhibitions, visiting sessions to conflict affected areas and religious festivals to be held in Lalibela during Christmas and Gondar during the Timket holiday or Baptism of Jesus Christ are among the programs arranged to engage the Diaspora in the country’s overall activities, according to the Spokesperson.

The Diaspora has been playing a crucial role in fending off foreign pressures and disinformation campaigns against Ethiopia and contributing support to development initiatives.

The #GreatEthiopianHomeComing challenge aims to help the Diaspora community show solidarity with the government and people of Ethiopia and support the reconstruction and rehabilitation process.

The spokesperson said that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has recently reviewed its one hundred day plan performance. The ministry has achieved remarkable achievements in highly motivating Pan-Africanism and involving the Diaspora the Diaspora community in the public diplomacy sphere particularly in fending off external pressure and media campaign against Ethiopia.

Ambassador Dina also said that the Ministry in partnership with Bahir Dar University has organized a symposium in which various scholars and intellectual presented scientific papers and respective findings that would help promote national interests of the country in a more coordinated manner.

Yesterday the nation declared the formation of a national dialogue commission that is aimed to strengthen national consensus and enhance the nation building process.
