Addis Ababa, March 7, 2020 (FBC) -Deputy Prime Minister Demeke Mokennen visited this morning the Ethiopian Public Health Institute’s public health emergency operation center.
During the visit, he was provided with a briefing about the preparedness and response for COVID-19 by teams of the center.
The Deputy Prime Minister encouraged members of federal police and defense ministry hospitals who attended the orientation on COVID-19.
Ethiopia has already established a national ministerial committee to lead and support the COVID-19 preparedness and response efforts.
Currently, there are no confirmed cases of coronavirus in Ethiopia.
According to the World Health Organization (WHO), nearly 100,000 people worldwide have contracted the coronavirus. More than 3,000 people have died – the majority in China.
WHO on Thursday also called on all nations to “pull out all the stops” to fight the COVID-19 coronavirus as it continues to spread outside of China.
“This epidemic can be pushed back but only with a coordinated and comprehensive approach that engages the entire machinery of government,” WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom said.
“We’re calling on every country to act with speed, scale and clear-minded determination.”
