Deputy PM Temesgen calls for smarter, tech-driven approach to anti-corruption efforts

Addis Ababa, March 25, 2025 (FMC) – Ethiopia’s Deputy Prime Minister, Temesgen Tiruneh, has emphasized the need to modernize the country’s anti-corruption efforts by leveraging technology to enhance law enforcement capabilities.

The Deputy PM highlighted the ongoing efforts against corruption in the country during a meeting with key stakeholders of this domain today.

In his message published on his social media, Mr. Temesgen highlighted the importance of smarter, faster, and more effective systems in the fight against corruption.

“In this day and age, if we’re serious about fighting corruption, we’ve got to embrace the tools that make that fight smarter, faster, and more effective. That means updating the technology-enabled systems that support law enforcement,” he stated.

According to him, the meeting served as a platform to assess existing efforts, identify gaps, and chart a path forward. He noted that while progress has been made, critical areas require stronger coordination and innovation.

More than just reviewing past actions, the discussion focused on setting a clear direction for the future.

Temesgen underscored the government’s commitment to strengthening institutional capacity, investing in advanced enforcement systems, and ensuring that anti-corruption measures go beyond policies to build public trust. “More importantly, we set a shared direction. A commitment to strengthen coordination, invest in smarter systems, and ensure that our institutions are equipped for the task ahead.”

The Deputy Prime Minister reaffirmed that combating corruption remains one of the priorities and called for collective action to make enforcement mechanisms more effective in safeguarding public trust. “The fight against corruption isn’t just about policies or programs—it’s about protecting the public trust. It’s about making sure every citizen has confidence that the rules are fair, and that justice is not just an ideal, but a reality. That’s the mission. And it’s one we carry forward—together,” the Deputy PM underscored.
