Addis Ababa, October 31, 2020 (FBC) – Deputy Prime Minister Demeke Mekonnen has stressed need for reinforced endeavors in conformity with the ongoing urbanization process in the country.
Addressing a forum organized by Ministry of Urban Development and Construction under the theme “Regional Spacial Development Plan for Balanced National Growth and Prosperity”, Deputy Prime Minister Demeke Mekonnen said that Cities should build economic capacity in a way to shoulder the fastest growing population growth.
On the occasion, the Deputy Prime Minister stressed need for establishment of a Regional Special Development Plan and Urban Living Lab in conformity with the ongoing reform activities in the country.
Nation will exert efforts to control urban sprawl related to unplanned expansion of cities and towns to neighboring rural localities, the Deputy Prime Minister said.
Deputy Prime Minister further called up on government officials and stakeholders to consolidate efforts to realize balanced and sustainable urban growth across the nation.
Establishment of regions’ spatial Development and cluster plan transformation of to urban land management system have been given due attention in nation’s master plan of Urban Development and Construction sector, it is indicated.
