Addis Ababa, October 8, 2024 (FBC) – Deputy Prime Minister Temesgen Tiruneh convened with Director General of the International Organization for Migration (IOM) Amy Pope to discuss mechanisms for enhancing collaboration between Ethiopia and the agency.
Their discussions focused on tackling the root causes of illegal migration and promoting overseas employment as a pathway to sustainable development in Ethiopia.
During the meeting, Temesgen revealed that Ethiopia is currently home to more than 1.1 million refugees from various nations.
He expressed appreciation for IOM’s efforts in combating illegal migration and supporting both returnees and internally displaced individuals within the country.
Amy Pope also commended the government’s notable efforts in tackling illegal migration and providing essential support for migrants and internally displaced people.
