Czech say ready to share mining sector experience to Ethiopia

Addis Ababa, January 10, 2024 (FBC) – The Czech Republic stands prepared to impart its expertise in the mining domain to Ethiopia, as asserted by the Ambassador of the Czech Republic to Ethiopia, Miroslav Kosek.

The Czech envoy revealed this intention during a meeting with Ethiopia’s Minister of Mines, Habtamu Tegegn, wherein they engaged in discussions regarding ways to harness Ethiopia’s mineral resources for sustainable development and to enhance geological exploration.

During their discussion, Habtamu Tegegn stated that his Ministry is working together with the government of the Czech Republic to advance the mining sector with technology.

He affirmed the joint commitment of the two nations to propel the mining industry forward through technology implementation and the execution of diverse projects.

In response, Ambassador Miroslav Kosek articulated that his nation is poised to collaborate with the Ministry on multifarious matters and disseminate its wealth of experience in the sector.

He reminded that the experts of the Czech Republic are working together with the Geological Institute of Ethiopia in mineral exploration.

The Ambassador further indicated that his country will work closely with Ethiopia in advancing the sector with technology, capacity building and training.

It is to be recalled that Ethiopia and Czech Republic agreed in November 2023 to establish a joint economic cooperation commission. The agreement came after the discussion between Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed (PhD) and the Prime Minister of Czech Republic, Petr Fiala, on November 28, 2023, in Prague to elevate the existing cooperation between the two countries in various spheres. Besides to strengthening economic cooperation in water management, healthcare, and defense cooperation and the development of developmental aid projects, cooperation in the mining sector was also one of the discussion topics of the two prime ministers in the Czech capital.
