Customs commission seizes 130mln Birr worth contraband goods

Addis Ababa, October 24, 2022 (FBC) – The Ethiopian Customs Commission seized contraband goods worth more than 130 million birr in the previous week.

In its monitoring and inspection between October 14 and 20, the Commission seized import contraband items worth more than 99.2 million Birr and 31.1 million Birr worth export contraband items.

According to the Commision, the contraband items seized include clothes, fuel, electronics, medicine, vehicles, cosmetics, weapons, khat, drugs and currencies of different countries.

The contraband goods were seized by the joint efforts of the Ethiopian Customs Commission staff, Federal Police, state police members and the public through searches, checkpoint, and tip-offs.

11 individuals who were found to be transporting the contraband goods were also arrested.

The Customs Commission expressed gratitude to its staff, state and federal police members who participated in this law enforcement work.
