Addis Ababa, May 14, 2020 (FBC) – Cup of Excellence in partnership with Ethiopian Coffee and Tea Authority and USAID’s Feed the Future Ethiopia announced top 28 winning coffees from the competition.
In its inaugural ceremony held today, Ethiopia Cup of Excellence awarded three coffees which have scored 90+ in the contest. Each winner has received the Presidential Award.
Among the three winners, Rumudamo Industry scored 90.89 and Rumu Damo Coffee scored 90.25 with 74110 varietal washed coffees, both from Sidama Zone, SNNP Regional State.
And the first winner Niguse Gemeda coffee scored 91.04 in the competition.
COE organizers also announced the top 28 winning coffees which will be sold in an online auction on 25 June, it is indicated.
Dr. Adugna Debela, Director General of the Ethiopian Coffee and Tea Authority, on the occasion, said the success of the competition is a result of commitment by the organizing team and participating producers.
“The decision was made to move forward with the competition by adjusting to the new realities created by COVID-19. We had to move location, changing the original plan to conduct the competition in Ethiopia, and send the sample of each coffee to the jury.” Adugna stated.
He added that Cup of Excellence has paid off with a successful completion of the competition which will benefit the producers and the country as a whole.
