Addis Ababa, October 26, 2022 (FBC) – The FDRE Council of Ministers approved three draft regulations during its 14th regular session, chaired by Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed, on Wednesday 26 October.
The Council discussed on 3 draft regulations of establishing the Ethiopian Agricultural Research Institute and Social Security Agency for government and private sectors employees, as well as regulating powers and responsibilities of the Ethiopian Construction Authority.
Firstly, the Council discussed on the proposed draft regulation to establish the Ethiopian Agricultural Research Institute.
A draft regulation has been prepared and submitted to the Council of Ministers to establish an institution with a clear mission and responsibility to achieve the country’s export trade goals by developing agricultural technologies that help facilitate the contemporary and sustainable agricultural development aspirations through effective research, coordinating, supporting and encouraging the agricultural research system as well as strengthening institutional linkages.
Secondly, the Council discussed the proposed draft regulation to determine the power, responsibilities and structure of the Ethiopian Construction Authority.
The regulation aims to ensure the construction industry corresponds with the contemporary technologies, to increase the efficiency and competitiveness of the industry, to control and support the implementation of construction projects at the appropriate cost, time and quality, to esure the safety and health of citizens and the environment.
Finally, the Council discussed on the proposed draft regulations to establish social security agency for government and private sector employees.
The draft was prepared to improve the system and capacity of the institutions, to reinvigorate their structures and clarify their powers and responsibilities. It has been stated that amending the existing regulations is important to ensure the continuity and reliability of the pensioners services in post retirement period.
After extensive discussion, the Council approved all three of the proposed drafts, effective from the day they are published on Negarit newspaper with necessary additional inputs, as per the Office of the Prime Minister-Ethiopia.
