Addis Ababa, August 21, 2023 (FBC) – A conference on Neglected Tropical Diseases (NTDs) is underway in Arba Minch City of Ethiopia involving participation of Health Ministers of 13 African countries and representatives of partner organizations.
The conference has been co-organized by the Ministry of Health, Arba Minch University, and Neglected Tropical Diseases (NTDs) Program.
Ethiopia’s State Minister for Health, Dr. Dereje Duguma, NTDs’ Africa Director Dr. Teshome Gebre, among others, are presiding over the conference.
The Minister of State for Health, Dr. Derje Duguma, the Africa Director of the International Organization for the Prevention and Control of Communicable Diseases in Lowland and Tropical Regions, Dr. Teshome Gebrena, and representatives of the Ministries of Health and partner organizations of 13 African countries, including Ethiopia, attended the conference.
Dr. Teshome stated that trachoma and NTDs are highly affecting the East and Southern African countries, adding that a collective control system is being established to prevent infectious diseases.
Reports from different countries on efforts to curb tropical infectious disease will be presented and discussed on the conference.
