Addis Ababa, October 21, 2022 (FBC) – Ethiopian delegation led by Federal Police Commissioner, General Demelash Gebre-Michael is participating in the 90th INTERPOL General Assembly, being held in New Delhi, India.
The conference is being held between October 18 and 21, 2022, and 188 member countries’ police chiefs, ministers and various international organizations working in partnership with the police are also participating.
On the sideline of the assembly, Comm’r-Gen. Demelash held discussions with the President of the INTERPOL, Major General Ahmed Nasir al-Raisi, the officers of the regional office and the African Interpol representatives.
The discussion with Maj.-Gen. Ahmed Nasir Al-Raisi focused on the conditions that will enable Ethiopia to continue strengthening its contribution to INTERPOL.
They also discussed the cooperation of the Ethiopian Federal Police with INTERPOL to strengthen the technology transfer, human resource capacity building, forensic and cyber crime investigation.
In addition, the Comm’r-General also advised with the Namibian Republic Police Chief, Lt. Gen. Joseph Shimuelao Shikongo on cooperation to prevent and control the human trafficking crime.
At the same time, Demelash also met with a delegation of the Djibouti National Police Force and discussed the ongoing collaborative activities by police institutions of the two countries to prevent and control cross-border crimes in the border areas.
Furthermore, the Commissioner General consulted with Mr. Gideon Kimilu, the head of INTERPOL for East Africa, the President of the Union of East African Police Chiefs, the Police Commissioner General of the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Jean Balongandi, as well as police chiefs from other countries.
It was mentioned, in the assembly, that Ethiopia’s cooperation on handing over of human trafficking fugitives received praise from the participants.
