Addis Ababa, October 30, 2021 (FBC) – The Ethiopian Investment Commissioner has asked the Biden administration to rethink its “threat” of banning Ethiopia from African Growth and Opportunity Act (AGOA).
In a letter the head of the commission Lelise Neme wrote, she said that “the AGOA initiative has enabled Ethiopia to attract global corporations from developed nations, including the US giant PVH- the owner of Calvin Klein”.
Encouraged by AGOA, the letter states, Ethiopia built industrial parks in different parts of the country, now housing world renowned manufacturers that created thousands of jobs for citizens.
It thus demanded the US administration to reconsider its thought of banning Ethiopia from AGOA in order to maintain the benefits of these global companies and thousands of employees working at them.
