Commission discusses with stakeholders on how to spur rehabilitation of conflict-affected communities

Addis Ababa, March 31, 2023 (FBC) – National Rehabilitation Commission is consulting with stakeholders in Bahir Dar City on how to beef up the rehabilitation of conflict-affected communities in a way to bring durable peace in the country.

In attendance are Deputy Chief Administrator of the Amhara Regional State, Getachew Jember (PhD) and Commissioner of the National Rehabilitation Commission, Ambassador Teshome Toga.

Deputy Chief Administrator, Getachew Jember stated that Amhara region has been highly affected by the war in northern Ethiopia and many who had been displaced during the conflict are yet to be rehabilitated and reinstated to their residential areas.

He called for concerted efforts to return the displaced to their normal livelihood and bring lasting peace in the region.

UNDP Ethiopia Representative, Cleophas O.Torori, said the UN Agency is currently implementing a post-conflict rehabilitation programme in Ethiopia, calling government and stakeholders to play their part in the process.

Ambassador Teshome, for his part, said activities are underway to disarm combatants from all parties and spur the rehabilitation and reintegration drive.

Saying the rehabilitation works need a large amount of resources, the Commissioner called on all stakeholders to actively support the program.
