Addis Ababa, May 6, 2020 (FBC) –The Ethiopian Irrigation Development Commission has awarded construction of irrigation facilities to three contractors.
The contracts, valued at more than 4.7 billion birr, were awarded to Ethiopian Construction Works Corporation, Sur Construction plc and Afar Water Works Construction Enterprise.
The Commission signed the agreements with heads of the firms yesterday.
According to the agreement, the Ethiopian Construction Works Corporation will execute construction of Kaza dam project and other related works with 2.5 billion birr.
Meanwhile, the Kaza irrigation development and drainage facility will be undertaken by Sur Construction plc with 1.8 billion birr.
The Afar Water Works Construction Enterprise agreed to carry out the Tendaho Pc-16 irrigation block rehabilitation and flood protection dyke maintenance project with 433.1 million birr.
Kaza dam and irrigation development (Lot1&2) will be finalized in four years, while the Tendaho project is expected to take up to one year.
The Kaza dam and irrigation development facility will be built in Tigray regional state.
With a 57m height and a length of 2.54 km, the dam has the capacity to develop 10,000 hectares of land and benefit more than 20,000 farmers.
Tendaho irrigation rehabilitation and flood protection dyke maintenance project will be executed in Afar regional state.
