Addis Ababa, February 21, 2023 (FBC) – The Ethiopian Investment Commission (EIC) announced that efforts are underway to return Ethiopia to the African Growth and Opportunity Act (AGOA).
The U.S. terminated Ethiopia from the AGOA trade preference program in the context of the conflict in northern parts of the country.
Habtu Mamo, an industrial parks expert at the EIC, the government is closely working with civil organizations in the U.S. and various stakeholders to get the country back to the AGOA program.
Habtu pointed out that the influx of foreign direct investment to Ethiopia is increasing following the peace agreement reached between the federal government and the TPLF, adding the return of Ethiopia to AGO would help build on the achievements in the sector and salvage livelihoods of people who were dependent on the initiative.
He added that various activities are well underway discover more market destinations for the products being manufactured in the flourishing industrial parks in the country.
