Addis Ababa, August 30, 2023 (FBC) – Information Network Security Administration of Ethiopia (INSA) stated that today’s artificial rain test through cloud seeding technology was successful.
The cloud seeding and precipitation was carried out today by using drone technology, ground generator and remote control, INSA said.
In her remarks during the artificial rain test, the Minister of Irrigation and Lowlands, Ms. Aisha Mohammad, mentioned that low-lying areas lack precipitation and are prone to drought.
The Minister noted that cloud seeding project offers a significant contribution to solving the challenges in the sector.
She also stated that the Ministry of Irrigation and Lowlands support to operate 60 ground generators needed for cloud seeding is the beginning of promising cooperation.
On his part, Director General of Information Network Security Administration, Solomon Soka, said that works are being undertaken to cover vast areas in the next cloud seeding project.
Cloud seeding is a type of weather modification that aims to change the amount or type of precipitation that falls from clouds by dispersing substances into the air that serve as cloud condensation or ice nuclei, which alter the microphysical processes within the cloud.
