Addis Ababa, May 16, 2021 (FBC) – Environment Forest and Climate Change Commission stated than more than 5.8 seedlings have been prepared for the national tree planting program to be held during the upcoming rainy season.
Forestry Development Directorate Director at the Commission, Bishaw Shibabaw said that more than 96pct of the plan has been achived ahead of the goal set to raise 6 billion saplings till the commencement of the plantation. Seedlings are now being raised in 126,000 nurseries throuhout the nation, he indicated.
The saplings will be planted on 1.9 million hectre of land through massive public participation, according to the director.
Ethiopia is set to plant 20 billion trees by 2024 as per the ongoing National Green Legacy Initiative which started in 2019.
