Addis Ababa March 13, 2023 (FBC) – The United Nation World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) has selected Ethiop’s Choke Mountains Eco village as one of the Best World Tourism Village (BTV).
UNWTO elected the village as Best Tourism Village, which found in the third highest mountain in Ethiopia Choke Mountain, is located about 300km northwest of Addis Ababa in West Gojam Zone at Degadamot Woreda.
State Minister of Tourism Seleshi Girma along with representatives from Choke Mountains Eco village received the award from UNWTO Secretary General in Alula City, Saudi Arabia.
On the awarding ceremony UNWTO Secretary General said that UNWTO selected Ethiopia’s Choke Mountains Eco village from more than 50 countries and more than 100 tourism destinations who participated in the competition.
Ambassador, Plenipotentiary of Ethiopia to Saudi Arabia Lencho Bati and other invited guests attended the awarding ceremony. Choke Village, located 300 kilometers northwest of Addis Ababa, is located in Dega Damot District of West Gojam Zone.
Based on the concept of full ecology, it is described as a village that practices community-based tourism, natural resource conservation eco-tourism and sustainable environmental protection.
It is expected that the tourism village located on Choke Mountains, which is one of the highest mountains in Ethiopia, will be a driving force for rural development.
