Addis Ababa, January 10, 2023 (FBC) – The recently appointed Chinese Foreign Minister, Qin GANG, arrived in Addis Ababa today for his first overseas official visit.
Upon his arrival at Bole International Airport, the new Chinese FM was warmly welcomed by the FDRE Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Demeke Mekonnen, and other senior government officials.
It was announced that Qin GANG is embarking his official visit to the continent from Ethiopia to deepen the Africa-China strategic partnership and boost friendly cooperation.
Qin GANG’s working visit schedule covers Ethiopia, Gabon, Angola, Benin, Egypt, the African Union Headquarters and the League of Arab States Headquarters upon invitation from January 9 to 16, 2023.
During his stay in Ethiopia, discussions are expected to be held with senior government officials to further deepen the long-standing relationship between the two countries.
He is also expected to discuss with African Union Commission Chairperson Moussa Faki Mahamat on various issues.
Qin GANG is also expected to attend a ribbon cutting ceremony of the China-backed Africa CDC new Headquarter project site in the African Village, Addis Ababa.
The headquarter building is expected to become one of the best-equipped centres for disease control in Africa, allowing Africa CDC to play its role as the technical institution coordinating disease prevention, surveillance and control in the continent in partnership with the national public health institutes and ministries of health of Member States.
