Addis Ababa, November 14, 2024 (FBC) – The China-Africa (Ethiopia) Economic and Trade Cooperation Forum has commenced in Addis Ababa with participation from a high-level Chinese delegation.
In his opening speech, Minister of Finance, Mr. Ahmed Shide, highlighted the deepening of the relations between Ethiopia and China to a higher level. He noted that under the leadership of Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed, Ethiopia has undertaken comprehensive economic reforms, creating attractive investment opportunities.
The Minister invited Chinese companies to take advantage of these opportunities and invest in priority sectors such as agriculture, tourism, technology, and mining.
State Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Mesganu Arga, underscored the strong and unwavering “All Weather Strategic Partnership” between Ethiopia and China. He stated that today’s forum marks the beginning of a new chapter in economic diplomacy.
Ambassador Mesganu also called on companies from Jiangsu Province to engage in green economy, renewable energy, technology, and human resource training sectors, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ethiopia.
The Governor of Jiangsu Province and head of the delegation, Xu Kunlin, noted that Ethiopia holds a pivotal position in the Africa-China relationship.
He also mentioned that various companies from Jiangsu are already involved in investment activities in Ethiopia, and more anchor companies have expressed interest in participating in sectors related to renewable energy and electric vehicle manufacturing.
