Chinese aircraft makes its first flight using environmentally friendly fuel

Addis Ababa, September 25, 2024 (FBC) – China’s self-developed C919 aircraft has made its first commercial flight using sustainable aviation fuel (SAF). This is reported by China Daily, a partner of TV BRICS.

The flight from Beijing to Shanghai was the first of four routes on which it plans to conduct a flight test of SAF aircraft.

The trial follows a call by the National Development and Reform Commission and the Civil Aviation Administration of China to pilot SAF with various aircraft models, including the C919.

The environmentally friendly aviation fuel is mainly made from animal and vegetable waste, used edible oils, urban rubbish, and agricultural and forestry waste.

SAF can reduce carbon dioxide emissions by up to 85 per cent compared to traditional fossil fuels, making it a promising alternative for civil aviation.

This advancement is an essential step in the development of clean transport in China and demonstrates the country’s commitment to the sustainable development of the aviation industry.
