Addis Ababa, May 17, 2021 (FBC) – China has reaffirmed support to the AU-led trilateral negation on the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD).
Ministerial Counselor and Deputy head of mission at the Chinese embassy in Addis Ababa, Xia Tian noted that GERD is drawing attention of the world community including the UN Security Council, adding his government is supporting AU-led dialogues to resolve the issue.
China considers greater importance of GERD for Ethiopia and supports peaceful mechanisms to address the issue in line with the country’s rights to utilize its natural resources for development purpose, he added.
The Deputy Head of Mission underscored that China encouraged Sudan and Egypt to stick to the trilateral negotiation being held under auspices of the African Uion (AU). “China believes in African Solutions for African Problems” he said.
