African nations receive medical supplies from China

Addis Ababa, April 23, 2020 (FBC) –Ambassador of China to Ethiopia, Tan Jian, today handed over medical supplies donated by the Chinese Government to African nations.

The COVID-19 preventive medical equipment were transported from Beijing to Addis Ababa by the Ethiopian Airlines (Ethiopian).

The equipment distributed to 12 African countries include infrared thermometers, gloves, masks, gowns, face shields and coveralls, among others.

Speaking at a handover ceremony held at the Ethiopian Cargo &Logistics Services, ambassador Tan said China will continue to support African countries that stood by its side during testing times.

He thanked the Ethiopian Cargo &Logistics Services for its irreplaceable role in transporting life-saving medical equipment worldwide.

Ethiopian Group CEO, Tewolde Gebremariam said China has provided the necessary aid to African nations at the right time.

The airlines will continue its air cargo services to assist the COVID19 containment efforts, he said, further urging all African countries to join hands to control the spread of the virus.

Ethiopian delivered medical supplies donated by Jack Ma Foundation to 51 African countries within 6 days, he said, adding the airline will continue its operations with the required safety and speed.

The medical equipment were distributed to Angola, Cameroon, Central Africa Republic, Chad, Djibouti, Lesotho, Madagascar, Namibia, Niger, Rwanda, Somalia and Zanzibar.

It is to be recalled that Ethiopia had earlier received medical supplies provided by Chinese government. A 12-member Chinese anti-pandemic medical expert team also arrived in Addis Ababa last week.
