China assigns new ambassador to Ethiopia

Addis Ababa, August 5, 2024 (FBC) – The newly appointed ambassador-designate of the People’s Republic of China to Ethiopia presented copy of his credentials to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ethiopia (MFA Ethiopia) today.

The ministry stated that Melaku Bedada, Director General of Protocol Affairs at MFA Ethiopia, received the copy of the credentials from Ambassador Chen Hai, the newly appointed Ambassador-Designate of the People’s Republic of China to the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia.

It is to be recalled that high ranking government officials bid farewell to outgoing Chinese Ambassador Zhao Zhiyuan on May, 2024, who has returned to China completing his mission in Ethiopia.

Ambassador Chen Hai becomes the 16th Chinese Ambassador to Ethiopia, according to the Embassy of China in Addis Ababa.

In a message published on social media platform X (formerly Twitter) following the ambassador’s courtesy visit to MFA Ethiopia, the Embassy has also referred Ethiopia as “our second home with a time-honoured history.”

“With the coming Forum on China–Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) Summit, the newly appointed ambassador is ready to join hands with our Ethiopian friends to write a new chapter for China-Ethiopia all-weather strategic partnership,” the Embassy further stated.
