China pledges continued support for Ethiopia’s efforts to achieve ten-year development plan

Addis Ababa, October 22, 2024 (FBC) – The Chinese Embassy in Addis Ababa hosted a seminar today titled “New Opportunities for China-Ethiopia Cooperation in the Joint Pursuit of Modernization.”

During the seminar, Mr. Wu Yan, Vice Minister of Education of China, emphasized the strengthening relationship between China and Ethiopia. He expressed China’s commitment to enhancing cooperation with Ethiopia, particularly in the pursuit of modernization, which he identified as essential for advancing bilateral ties.

Mr. Wu highlighted Ethiopia’s impressive economic growth under the leadership of Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed, reiterating China’s dedication to deepening collaboration across various sectors. He confirmed China’s support for Ethiopia in achieving its ten-year development plan.

He pledged that China would share its best practices in socio-economic development, focusing on education, science, trade, industrialization, investment, and green transition as priority areas for cooperation.

“The relationship between China and Ethiopia is thriving at both the governmental and party levels,” he remarked, vowing to take full advantage of the evolving partnership.

Mr. Wu also noted that the emergence of a multipolar world provides a significant opportunity for China and Ethiopia to strengthen their international cooperation, reflecting their shared aspirations for prosperity, development, and happiness for their peoples.

Tesfahun Gobezay, Deputy Head of the Prosperity Party, acknowledged the longstanding bilateral relationship, which spans over fifty years, and praised the robust and flourishing cooperation between the two nations.

He described China as a trusted development partner for Ethiopia, highlighting the significant role of Chinese investments in the Ethiopian economy. He said China is the primary source of Foreign Direct Investment for Ethiopia, pledging the commitment of Ethiopia to further enhancing ties in economic, diplomatic, and political domains.
