Chief Administrators, Speakers joint forum opens in Bahir Dar

Addis Ababa, January 28, 2021 (FBC) –Consultative forum of Chief Administrators and House Speakers opened in the city of Bahir Dar this morning.

Chief Administrators of Amhara, Oromia, Benishangul Gumuz, Afar and Gambella regional states as well as Chief Executive of Tigray regional state, Dr Mulu Nega are in attendance of the meeting.

The forum, which is being held under the theme “Good Neighbourliness for Ethiopia’s Prosperity,” also brought together Speakers of regional state councils.

In his opening remarks, Speaker of the House of Federation, Adem Farah, said relations among regional states should be based on the constitution, aim to strengthen the federal system and focus on fundamental issues.

He said in order to make them successful, relations should be guided on the principles of equality, partnership, fraternity, respect, mutual trust and cooperation, he said.

He added the House of Federation will exert more efforts to improve relations of regional states and strengthen national unity based on the equality and will of the people.

The objective of the Constitution will be materialized if all regional states give due focus to peace, development, good governance, democracy, human rights, and rule of law, he stated.

He said regional states should work towards bringing to justice individuals who are responsible for the death, injury and displacement of people as well as damages to property.

In his concluding remarks, the Speaker said the memorandum of understanding (MoU) recently signed between Oromia and Somali regional states could be taken as a good beginning.

According to the MoU, the two regional states will carry out joint pace and development activities in 12 zones and 48 woredas at a cost of 222.7 million birr for the coming five years.
