Addis Ababa, February 9, 2022 (FBC) – Chief Administrator of the Afar Regional State, Awol Arba has called on the UN and other international aid agencies to deliver humanitarian support to people highly affected by war in Afar region. He called on the international community to immediately respond to catastrophic humanitarian situation in the Afar Region.
A delegation led by President Sahlework Zewde and UN Under-Secretary-General Amina Mohammed held talks with Chief Administrator Awol Arba and various tribal leaders on the current situation in the region.
Awol Arba stated that the terrorist TPLF has encroached the border to the region and waged a war on five Woredas of Afar.
He said three of the war-torn districts are settled by unarmed civilians and innocent people are being targeted TPLF’s atrocities.
He called on various international organizations, including the United Nations to consider humanitarian situation in addition to exploring inlet to the Tigray region.
