Addis Ababa, March 20, 2022 (FBC) – The Ethiopian Embassy in India held a trade, tourism and investment forum in Chennai, the capital of Tamil Nadu State, in collaboration with Indian Economic Trade Organization (IETO), India Africa Trade Council (IATC) and COMESA office of IATC in Chennai yesterday.
Ambassador Tizita Mulugeta, in her speech, addressed Indian investors to explore the vast opportunities in Ethiopia mentioning the presence of more than 600 Indian investors in Ethiopia who engage in different sectors creating job opportunities for thousands of youth in the country.
Highlighting the strong relation Ethiopia and India enjoy, including their strong people-to-people relationship, the Ambassador called on the business community of both countries to help cement relations in business and investment.
Ambassador Tizita underlined the commitment of the government of Ethiopia to investors coming from abroad and explained the actions taken by the government in updating the rules and regulations governing the investment environment in the country.
Dr Venkatachalam Murugan, Head of the Chennai Branch Secretariat of the Ministry of External Affairs of India stated the existing strong relation of the two countries and asserted the support of the Indian government to the growth and development of Ethiopia.
The President of the Indian Economic Trade Organization, Dr Asif Iqbal, on his part, stated the efforts his organization is exerting to help facilitate the business activities between India and African countries and announced his organisation’s plan to take a business delegation to Ethiopia in the coming few weeks.
Dr B Ramakrishnan, Head of India Africa Trade Council (IATC) and COMESA office in Chennai also reiterated the need to build strong economic relations with Africa and noted the huge opportunities African countries including Ethiopia present for Indian investors in different sectors.
A power point presentation about the trade, tourism and investment opportunities in Ethiopia was presented for the participants and a question and answer session followed with Ambassador Tizita.
Prior to the forum a press briefing was held and Ambassador Tizita Mulugeta responded to questions raised by journalists regarding the robust investment opportunities Ethiopia has to offer to the Indian business community.
