BRICS a vital platform to renew multilateralism: MFA State Minister

Addis Ababa, December 11, 2023 (FBC) – BRICS is an important platform to renew multilateralism and make it more inclusive and fairer to reflect the legitimate interest of the Global South, according to Ambassador Mesganu Arga, State Minister for Political and Economic Diplomacy at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ethiopia.

The Minister of State made the remark at a session titled ‘BRICS Rising Influence in a Multipolar International Order’ at the 21st annual Doha Forum 2023 in Doha, Qatar, which is being held from 10 to 11 December 2023.

He highlighted the group’s pursuit of reform, economic fairness, and political inclusiveness, advocating for better representation given their high population density and significant economic growth.

Amb. Mesganu underscored that the BRICS+ expansion will advance increased economic dynamism and growth by tapping into the potential of new market opportunities.

“BRICS is not about substituting our strong and traditional partners. BRICS is not anti-West. It is pro-Global South to promote shared prosperity,” he asserted.

In concurrence with Mesgau’s remarks, policy makers and experts from several countries speaking at the Doha Forum 2023 highlighted the potential of the BRICS group to establish trade and investment alliances, fostering economic and social development in a multipolar world.

The Doha Forum is a global platform for dialogue, bringing together leaders in policy to discuss critical challenges facing our world, and to build innovative and action-driven networks. Under the banner “Diplomacy, Dialogue, Diversity”, the event promotes the exchange of ideas and discourse towards policy making and action-oriented recommendations.
