Addis Ababa, September 29, 2023 (FBC) – Bonga University of Ethiopia and Michurinsk State Agrarian University of Russia have entered into a cooperation agreement.
President of Bonga University, Petros Woldegiorgis and acting Rector of the Michurinsk State Agrarian University, Sergei Zhidkov have signed the agreement on behalf of their respective institutions.
The cooperation agreement will allow the two higher education institutions to implement joint international and regional projects.
The two universities agreed to exchange teachers and students and undertake joint researches that would help increase agricultural productivity.
“The agreement reached between the two educational institutions is an excellent example of the implementation of the words spoken by Russian President Vladimir Putin at the plenary meeting of the Russia-Africa Economic and Humanitarian Forum,” said Sergei Zhidkov.
“We have agreed to undertake exchange of students and teachers. We have obtained good lessons from Michurinsk State Agrarian University in laboratory and greenhouse management. The university is keen on sharing its best experiences with us in this regard so as to help our institution achieve the same success,” said Petros Woldegiorgis (PhD).
Michurinsky State Agrarian University announced that it will receive undergraduate and graduate students from Ethiopia for the next academic year.
Bonga University is located in the southwest of Ethiopia, in Keffa Zone, the birthplace of Coffee Arabica.
Bonga University is currently is providing trainings for coffee specialists and people engaged in the agricultural industry. The university is now offering undergraduate programs specializing on coffee development, and has finalized preparations to start coffee oriented programs with postgraduate degrees.
