Addis Ababa, June 10, 2023 (FBC) – BEPA (Busan Economic Promotion Agency) footwear Industrial Promotion Center to launch footwear production capacity building project in Ethiopia with $10 million funds from Republic of Korea Official Development Assistance (ODA).
Ethiopian Ambassador to the Republic of korea, Dessie Dalkie, attended the footwear production capacity building project kickoff and MoU signing ceremony organized by Busan metropolitan city and BEPA footwear Industrial Promotion Center in Busan, South korea.
During the event, the BEPA footwear industrial promotion center has announced its intention to launch capacity building project.
It is stated that the project which will be financed by $10 million grant from the Republic of korea ODA, aims to enhance the footwear manufacturing sector in Ethiopia.
The capacity building project, which will start 2023 and last until 2027 will provide the necessary assistance and training to workers local footwear producers and officials to enhance competitveness of leather and leather products industry particularly footwear industry in Ethiopia.
In his remarks Ambassador Dessie Dalkie extended his gratitude to Busan metropolitan city and BEPA footwear Industrial Promotion Center for organizing the event and recalled the longstanding historical relationship between Ethiopia and Republic of Korea.
He emphasized the significance of this relationship and its potential to be strengthened through economic exchange and political relations.
He underlined that such kind of project is critical to enhance the productivity and effectiveness of local footwear Industries in Ethiopia.
The Ambassador also emphasized comparative advantages in Ethiopia due to employable youth work force and inputs in the country making the country an attractive destination for foreign investment particularly for leather and leather products industry.
At the end of the event, MOU between the Ethiopian Embassy in Republic of Korea and the BEPA Footwear Industrial Promotion Center was signed to strengthen cooperation and friendly relations between the Republic of Korea and the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia, it was stated.
Following the event the Ambassador visited several shoe factories and Footwear Industrial Promotion Center promotion show room and training center in Busan.
