AU Sports Council introduces new technical committee for African games to deliver world-class games

Addis Ababa, November 30, 2024 (FBC) – In preparation for the upcoming African Games, the African Union Sports Council (AUSC) convened an induction workshop for the newly appointed Technical Committee for the African Games (TCAG) recently at the AU Headquarters in Addis Ababa.

The workshop covered key aspects of Games organization, including the TCAG’s role, host city preparations, technical regulations, financial management, marketing, security, and legacy planning. The workshop also elected a new Bureau to lead the TCAG and discussed the 2027 African Games Protocol Agreement, Games portfolio and detailed timeline of the upcoming games in Egypt.

The African Games, held every four years, is a premier event that highlights Africa’s exceptional athletic talent, celebrates the continent’s rich cultural heritage, and fosters solidarity and integration. To ensure the success of future editions, the TCAG will provide technical expertise and strategic guidance to organizing committees, setting the stage for world-class sporting events that embody excellence, unity, and African pride.

“The TCAG plays a pivotal role in ensuring the successful organization and management of the African Games said Dr. Decius Chipande, Head, AU Sport Council as he welcomed in the elected TCAG members. Outlining their crucial role, he added, “Guided by Article 18 (1) of the AUSC Statute, the TCAG will provide strategic leadership, oversee the Local Organizing Committee, align Technical and General Regulations, and establish robust systems to secure adequate revenue. Through these efforts, the TCAG is expected to deliver a world-class sporting event that not only showcases African excellence but also fosters unity, strengthens solidarity, and upholds the integrity of the African Games” Dr Chipande said in conclusion.
