Addis Ababa, June 3, 2020 (FBC) – The Federal Attorney General has provided 20 million birr to the Addis Ababa police commission to improve detention centers.
Attorney General Adanech Abiebie and commissioner of the Addis Ababa police commission, Getu Argaw, signed the financing agreement here today.
Besides improving detention centres, the fund will be used to build 10 more detention facilities and fulfil equipment used for investigation, said Adanech.
The Attorney General also highlighted the measures taken in the past two years to improve the respect for human rights in prison and police stations.
She further said more than 100,000 prisoners were released from prisons during the past two years.
Adanech said her office will continue it support to improve the handling of suspects in police stations
Today’s support is among the $3 million grant the office received for its justice reform program.
