Attorney General calls for joint efforts to control illicit movement of firearms

Addis Ababa, April 25, 2020 (FBC) –Attorney General Adanech Abiebie has called on the public to join hands in the fight against illicit trade and movement of firearms.

In a message posted on her Facebook page, the Attorney General said illicit trade and illegal movement of firearms have become a global challenge.

She said it is the responsibility of all to prevent this challenge which is currently causing serious damage to individuals, community and the country.

The Ethiopian Parliament recently approved the revised firearm administration and control law to prevent illicit trade and illegal movement of firearms.

Without valid license, the law prohibits import, export, possess, put, store, use, exhibit, broker, sale, buy, transfer, transport, manufacture, train, repair and dispose firearms.

The law shall not be applicable on defense forces and national intelligence and security services.
