Association launches hotline for sexual violence report

Addis Ababa, March 27, 2021 (FBC) – Ethiopian Women Lawyer Association (EWLA) has launched a toll-free national hotline service that would enable women and girls to report sexual and gender-based violence and obtain free legal support and counseling.

Cognizant of challenges survivors of gender-based violence have encountered to obtain face-to-face legal support due to COVID-19, the association has developed the hotline in partnership with the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), EWLA Executive Director Lensa Biyena said on the launching event.

The executive director indicated that the overall objective of the service is to improve the condition of women by helping them to access legal support and counseling via telephone dialing.

According to EPA, the hotline is also providing information on legal issues that would enable women to ensure their rights and benefits.
